Quick Care

Care Steps

The key things to remember when looking after this handmade wooden product.

Wipe clean only

Wipe clean with a damp cloth after use and dry thoroughly.

Do not soak

Never leave your board soaking in water, as this can cause movement or splitting.

No dishwasher

Do not put your board in the dishwasher. Heat and water can damage the wood.

Re-oil regularly

Re-oil regularly with food-safe mineral oil or board wax to protect the wood.

Avoid cooking oils

Do not use olive oil, vegetable oil, or other cooking oils as they can go rancid.

How to care for your wooden chopping board

A handmade wooden chopping board is made to be used, but it does need the right care. The main rules are simple: wipe it clean, dry it properly, never soak it, never put it in the dishwasher, and re-oil it when the timber starts to look dry.

Cleaning after use

After use, wipe your board clean with a damp cloth. For everyday use, this is usually enough. If needed, use a small amount of mild washing-up liquid, then wipe away any residue and dry the board straight away.

Why water damages wooden boards

Wood naturally reacts to moisture. If a board is left wet, soaked in water or placed in the dishwasher, the timber can move, split, cup or become rough. Keeping the board dry after cleaning is one of the most important parts of looking after it.

When to re-oil your board

Re-oil your chopping board when the surface starts to look dry, pale or patchy. Use food-safe mineral oil or a proper board wax. Apply a light coat, allow it to soak in, then wipe away any excess.

What not to use

Do not use olive oil, vegetable oil or other cooking oils on your board. These can go rancid over time and may leave an unpleasant smell or sticky surface.

Final care reminder

Look after it properly and your wooden chopping board can stay beautiful and useful for years. Clean gently, dry properly and re-oil when needed.
